Belted Kingfisher (and nest)

Previously uploaded as a "comment" photo. Now using it as an excuse to show a kingfisher nest. This nest was built into a mound of topsoil for a housing development. It is about one half mile from the DuPage River. I did some research and found that using a man-made "river bank" within range of a natural body of water is not too unusual.View large on blackwww.hardrain1.com
