DuPage River. He gave me quite a show and then after cleaning himself up posed nicely. All photos from shore. 1/2000th ISO 200 f4.0 420mm. 12/14/2007 3:00 pm. Monopod. To comment on some of the comments: I have tried for years to get good shots of these skittish birds from a kayak with NO success. This was a chance encounter from the shore. I have no idea why this one let me take these shots. He flew away on my approach, but after catching a fish he came back and seemed to forget I was there. Another interesting observation: A second kingfisher came flying in making all kinds noise. I could not tell if it was a male or female. This kingfisher chased it down the river and returned several minutes later. It appeared to be territorial behavior.
