View large on black www.hardrain1.com I spotted her while driving home yesterday morning (Bolingbrook at 127th a few blocks west of Weber Rd). I was able to get photos of the bands on both legs. I forwarded the photos to Stephanie Ware and Mary Hennen at the Chicago Field Museum. They are part of the Midwest Peregrine group. They were able to determine that she is Neomi Jo, born in Kentucky in 2006. She was seen at Fermilab (Batavia 45 miles west of Chicago) in 2007. They were going to do some more research but so far this is all the info available.I drove quite a ways off the road and up to a cornfield to shoot the above photo through my sunroof. But I wanted to get the other leg. So I walked around to the other side but the feathers were covering the bands. I focused my camera on the leg for about five minutes hoping for her to move. And then she did and I got a shot. When I looked back at my car I saw a fire engine and two firemen looking into my car. They said they had a report of an accident with someone slumped over the steering wheel. I told them that I was taking photos of the falcon that just flew off. After some more questioning about if it was my car and if I was alone, etc. I finally realized that they had to make sure I wasn't dumping a body or something. Anyway, they were professional and polite and it didn't go any further. But these encounters with public officials are becoming more frequent. I wonder if the rest of you have similar encounters when you go to some extreme to get the shot.
