Black-throated Green Warbler

Black-throated Green Warbler

No light yesterday, but still some interesting finds. The main photo Large on black is from Springbrook Prairie. Posed for a good look at the namesake black throat. I included some poor quality photos from the car window of two interesting birds seen on my way to Palos and Springbrook. The Cattle Egret was technically in Indiana east of Wolf Lake in a flooded field on Scheffield south of 129th.The Peregrine falcon was on 130th St. east of the bend in the Calumet River. You can not see the band clearly from this photo, but it is black 5 over green 1. I sent the photos to Stephanie Ware of the Field Museam who is involved in the Peregrine Watch programs. She verified the bands and IDd the bird as "Malty", born in Milwaukee in 2008. Malty is a male but he was so large that they used female bands. There were no other records for this bird. I first saw Malty as he was chasing a bird. The only bird I saw in the area was a female wood duck directly below this perch on the utility pole. I think I broke up the action a bit too soon...www.hardrain1.com
